Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated various development projects during the golden jubilee celebrations of the North Eastern Council in Meghalaya’s Shillong on Sunday.
Addressing a public meeting on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the North East Council (NEC) in Shillong, Modi said, “why not talk in football terminology when we’re all gripping from football fever? When someone goes against the sportsman spirit, they’re shown a red card & sent out. Similarly, in the last 8 yrs, we’ve shown a red card to several hurdles in the development of northeast.”
“We are making honest efforts to send out corruption, bias, nepotism, violence, project stalling, and vote bank politics. But you know that the roots of these diseases run deep and so we all have to uproot it together”, Modi stated.
“Its positive impact is visible across the country, while we changed the priorities of Central government”, Modi added.
However, the Centre is spending Rs 7 Lakh crore just for infrastructure this year. This was less than even Rs 2 Lakh crore, 8 yrs back. Meanwhile, we reached only up to Rs 2 Lakh crore after 7 decades of independence, he added.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Ministers of the northeastern states, and others are also participating in the celebrations.
The NEC is the nodal agency for the economic and social development of the North Eastern Region which consists of the eight States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
