Guwahati: The Trinamool Congress (TMC), the state’s opposition party, filed an FIR with the state police’s Cyber Cell on Friday in regard to a fake press release issued in the name of the party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who visited the state on June 29.

Vicky Dey and Patricia Mukhim, the editor of The Shillong Times, were listed as party nominees in the “so-called second list” of AITC candidates for the upcoming assembly election in Meghalaya in 2023, according to the “fake” press release with the “forged” signature of the AITC national general secretary.

The TMC demanded that the Meghalaya Police take immediate steps to apprehend those responsible for creating and spreading the fraudulent and fabricated press release in order to harm the party’s reputation as well as the personalities named in it.
