Meghalaya to get first de-addiction centre in Northeast
Guwahati: The state of Meghalaya will get Northeast’s first de-addiction centre for youths.
State Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla laid the foundation stone for the de-addiction centre at New Shillong Township on Tuesday.
The Centre will be run by KRIPA foundation through the PPP model with the state’s Social Welfare Department, officials said.
Reportedly, the youth re-addiction centre will reach out to children and adolescents in the city for early childhood intervention and risks in state and the entire northeast region.
Laying the foundation stone on Tuesday, Shylla said there is a need for more NGOs working for the cause of de-addiction in the state, particularly in the affected districts with no facilities for substance and drug users’ therapy, care, and recovery.
