Melkiganj: 12 police personnel injured during clash with cattle smugglers

Guwahati: At least 12 policemen have been reportedly injured during a conflict which broke out between Police and Cattle smugglers on the Bangladesh border on Saturday night.

The incident occurred at Ushalpukuri Gram Panchayat beneath Mekliganj police station where 12 policemen from the police station had been injured.

These police personnel were attacked by a group of cattle smugglers when they tried to rescue cows brought to the border area for smuggling.

Meanwhile, police nabbed six persons in connection with the attack and found that four of them were women.

Police also recovered 34 cows from the smugglers which were brought to the border area for smuggling into Bangladesh.

The police claimed that they had been at first pelted with stones and bricks. After that, they had been attacked with bamboo sticks by which Police personnel suffered accidents on their backs.

All the injured police personnel have been rushed to the Mekliganj hospital for medical attention.
