“Met CM Sarma to accelerate development of Raha” : Congress MLA Sashi Kanta denies joining BJP
Guwahati: Hours after the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) issued show cause notice to Congress Raha MLA Sashi Kanta Das for allegedly offering support to BJP government, Das on Tuesday claimed that he continued to be a Congressman and it was a ‘work visit’ .
On Monday, Das reportedly visited chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the latter and expressed his desire to work with the BJP led government.
Das clarified, “I am an MLA and Himanta Biswa Sarma is the chief minister of the state. As an MLA, I went to meet him to discuss developmental issues of my constituency of Raha. He assured me support. But confusion has created that I am joining BJP. It’s not true and I’m still a Congress member.”
The MLA said that he would furnish the reply to the show cause within 24 hours.
On Monday, in a letter to Das, APCC general secretary Bobbeeta Sharma said, “It has come to the notice of APCC President Bhupen Kumar Borah that you have made statements in full view of media offering your support to the BJP government and publicly showing your allegiance to the state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita and CM Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma.”
“Your statements and actions have created misgivings in the minds of party workers and tarnished party image and party discipline. In view of the above APCC President has show caused you to clarify your stand and intentions within 24 hours,” the letter added. Das added, “I know Sarma since his Congress days and I admire his work style. It’s not about party politics but I went to meet him to request him for accelerating development works in my constituency.”
