Guwahati: Sensation gripped at the Silchar National Highway after the recovery of a body of a 16-year-old missing girl.
Angry locals blocked the Silchar National Highway on Wednesday and burned a motorcycle in the midst of the town.
As per reports, the deceased minor girl reportedly went missing from Ashram road in Silchar last Sunday.
Following which a missing complaint was filed against one Rony Das by the parents of the minor girl at the Silchar National Highway Police Station, however, he was released on Tuesday.
Later, on Wednesday, the police recovered the body of the victim girl from Silchar’s Madhuraghat, thus, leading to an uproar amongst the local public.
Speaking to the media, one of the locals said, “The minor girl died four days back. Though the police arrested one of the accused in connection to the case, he was released on Tuesday. On Wednesday police arrested two more accused, while, three more are still absconding. We demand immediate arrests of the culprits in the next one hour by Cahcar police, else our protest will continue.”
Meanwhile, Cachar police resorted to blank firing to disperse the angry crowd that allegedly started to pelt stones at the police personnel.
The mob also vandalised several shops in the Ashram Road area in Silchar demanding arrests of the culprits, informed sources.
