Mizo Govt rejects conditions put forward by HPC-D


Aizwal, September 04: The peace talk that was supposed to be take place between the Government of Mizoram and a faction of Hmar People’s Convention-Democratic (HPC-D), has been cancelled over certain conditions put forward by the HPC-D.

The demand for an autonomous council under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution in the Hmar community areas and also inclusion of a senior official from the centre by the HPC-D, were not accepted by the government.

The State Government rejected the condition laid down by the HPC-D saying its stance was that they should not have any conditions for holding talks.

However, the peace discussions with the faction led by H Zosangbersa are expected to resume within the end of this month and the date will be fixed soon. H Zosangbera and the Mizoram Government has held peace talks on four occasions and the next round of peace talks is expected to be the last official talk, after which talks will be held at political level.

Officials have said that the peace talks with H Zosangbera faction is near its conclusion which revolves around creating Sinlung Hills Council.
