Mizoram: Assam Rifles seize heroin worth over Rs 8 crore from different locations

Guwahati: The Assam Rifles seized heroin worth over Rs 8 crore from different locations in Mizoram, official said on Tuesday.

Based on specific information, operation was carried out and as a result and contraband was concealed in 100 soap cases, official stated.

Personnel seized 1.3 kg of heroin worth Rs 5.23 crore during an operation at Zokhawthar village on the Indo-Myanmar border on Tuesday, official claimed.

One individual was arrested for possessing the contraband, which is suspected to have been smuggled from Myanmar.

Meanwhile, on Monday, personnel of Assam Rifles also seized 780 grams of heroin worth Rs 3.12 crore at the Tiau river, along the Indo-Myanmar border, the official said.

All the seized heroin and accused were handed over to the Mizoram excise and narcotics department for further legal action.

Furthermore, the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department stated that on Monday, it seized 107 gms of heroin and peddler in the Tuirial Airfield region near Aizawl.

The arrested accused booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act 1985, official said.
