Guwahati: The Mizoram government is expected to provide new guidelines on dealing with the new Omicron variant of coronavirus soon, said official.
A state-level expert committee on Covid-19 management has provided proposed guidelines to the government for screening and monitoring people coming from abroad.
According to sources, the new restriction will also include guidelines for Covid proper behaviour for such travellers.
The first two cases of the Omicron strain of COVID-19 in India were reported on Thursday from Karnataka, in a South African national and a Bengaluru doctor with no travel history and both males completely vaccinated.
It contains a higher number of mutations and spike protein, the Omicron variant is thought to be more infectious than the Delta variant, official stated.
Mizoram reported 275 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the state’s tally to 1,35,450. The death toll rose to 501 with one more fatality.
