Illegal Immigrants From Bangladesh Set Up 16 Villages In Mizoram

As many as 16 villages have been set up by Illegal Bangladeshi nationals in South Mizoram’s Lunglei district.

Local Administration Minister K Lalrinliana informed the House on Friday while replying to a question by Zoram People’s Movement legislator C Lalsawivunga.

Apart from the 16 villages, nine more such illegal villages were set up by the illegal settlers who have entered the state without valid documents in the areas bordering Bangladesh, Myanmar and Manipur informed Lalrinliana.

As per the Minister, out of the nine villages, four are located in Aizawl district, followed by three in Champhai district bordering Myanmar and two in Mamit district bordering Tripura.

The officials and student leaders, who had conducted research on the border areas, alleged that those who entered the state from Bangladesh and set up the illegal villages belonged to the Chakma community.
