Mizoram Police Rescue 31 Nepalese, Rohingya Muslim Girls From Alleged Trafficking

A total of 31 teenage girls all hailing from our neighbouring country Nepal and Rohingya Muslims girls were rescued by the Mizoram police. They were being allegedly trafficked for flesh trade.

According to media reports, the police had informed that they had rescued 23 Nepalese girls and eight Rohingya girls aged between 15 to 22 years and are suspected to be victims of human trafficking on April 30th, 2019. The Nepali girls were rescued from Champhai in eastern Mizoram near the Myanmar border while the Rohingya girls were detained at Vairengte in northern Mizoram.

One Lal Bahadur has also been arrested who was accompanying the Nepalese girls. The police are carrying out an investigation and also interrogating the detainees. On investigation, the police found out that the Nepali girls were told to visit tourist spots around the state and also attend a festival there.

Meanwhile, the Rohingya Muslim girls said that they were picked up by human traffickers from a refugee camp in Bangladesh to be sent to Malaysia for jobs.
