This year’s Mizoram’s High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exam topper Lalrinnungi is so much true to her work that she is back on her weekend routine of helping her parents in selling vegetables by a sidewalk in a Mizoram village.

The results were announced on May 2nd, 2019. She had topped the HSLC exam, among 17,000 students in Mizoram, by scoring 97.2 per cent. And on May 4th, 2019, Lalrinnungi was seen sitting on a stool, busy attending to her customers. People were seen congratulating her for topping the board examination. The photographs of her selling vegetable went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, Twitter was all praises for her as she was seen selling vegetables with her parents besides the fact that she topped the HSLC exams. “#Mizoram topper for Class X Board exams, #Lalrinnungi with her parents this morning at her usual vegetable selling spot. Go girl! You are an #inspiration #respect,” a user tweeted.

Another Twitter user wrote, “Lalrinnungi a 16-year-old girl from #Mizoram, daughter of a vegetable-seller, topped Mizoram’s High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination 2019. She scored 486 out of 500 and secured “letter” marks in Mathematics, Science, Social Science, English, and Mizo.”

The Mizoram Congress also congratulated the topper girl and wrote no matter what the situation is, hard work pays. Lalrinnungi scored 486 out of 500. She secured letter marks in Mathematics, Science, Social Science, English and Mizo.

When the results came out, Lalrinnungi after seeing her marks started crying because she felt “so great”. “My parents told me that I shouldn’t let the success get to my head and continue working hard,” she told media persons. For her board exams, Lalrinnungi studied for one hour in the morning (5:30 am to 6:30 am) and then later in the evening from 6 pm onwards. “I would study till about midnight,” she said.

Lalrinnungi appeared for her HSLC exams from the St Joseph Higher Secondary School and she will continue her further studies in the school. Post her results, the school authorities have announced that they will waive off her tuition and boarding fees for the next two academic terms.

The topper will now be felicitated for her success by the Mizo Zirlai Pawl on May 8th, 2019 along with nine other students who secured the top 10 positions in the examination.
