MLA Anwar Laskar throws challenge to Himanta Biswa Sarma to identify B’deshi in Hailakandi

Hailakandi, October 12: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF)’s Hailakandi MLA Anwar Laskar came down heavily on State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his remarks regarding the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Addressing the media here on Friday, he said, “I challenge him (Sarma) to come here and identify a single Bangladeshi in Hailakandi because he keeps on saying that there are Bangladeshis in Hailakandi, Cachar and other districts. We are the original inhabitants of Assam and I can prove it to him.”

Sarma has expressed his discontentment over the proceedings of the NRC. “The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 should not be an issue, rather the people should worry about the illegal foreigners who have been included in the complete draft of the NRC and how the illegal foreigners can be removed from the draft in districts like Dhubri, Cachar and Hailakandi,” Sarma said on Friday.

Anwar added, “Sarma wants to become the Chief Minister of Assam under the guidance of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He should be ashamed of the politics he is indulging into right now. He is targeting the Muslim community. Why is he talking about inclusion of the illegal foreigners after the publication of the draft NRC?.”

The MLA went on to add that a number of illegal foreigners entered Assam through Silchar under Sarma’s guidance.

“He will not win the 2019 general elections with his Hindu-Muslim politics,” said Anwar.
