Guwahati: Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the Congress party on Friday.
Simultaneously, he also tendered his resignation from the chairmanship of the disciplinary committee of the Party.
In his resignation letter to the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain said, “Having been associated with the Indian National Congress since my NSUI days, it is with deep regret, I announce my resignation from the primary membership of the party with immediate effect. I also tender my resignation from the chairmanship of the disciplinary committee of the Party.”
He also admitted that the recognition he received in the socio-political arena particularly with respect to our beloved state of Assam, has been on account of his nearly three – decade long association with the Indian National Congress. “My association with the party from the grassroots level has taught me valuable lessons that will remain my guiding force in the future,” he added.
Borgohain also claimed that he decided to resign from the party due to the changed internal political atmosphere within the party. “Something, I tried very hard to change so that the party remains relevant in a state like Assam. Unfortunately, all the efforts in this direction proved futile, compelling me to take this ultimate decision and the exact reasons for such a painful move on my part have already been conveyed to the senior leadership of the Party both in the state and at the centre,” MLA Sushanta Borgohain added.
It may also be mentioned that Sushanta Borgohain will tender his resignation as Thowra constituency MLA on Saturday.
He is likely to join the saffron party (BJP) on August 2, 2021.
