Guwahati: The state of Assam was struck by a moderate earthquake of 3.5 magnitude on the Richter scale at around 4.49 pm on Friday.
So far, at least 22 moderate to mild earthquakes have rocked the state of Assam since last Wednesday.
As per a report by the National Centre of Seismology, the earthquake was recorded at a shallow depth of 40 km with its epicenter in Assam’s Sonitpur district.
No damages to properties or casualties have been reported during the quake.
According to NCS, the area is seismically very active falling in the highest Seismic Hazard Zone V associated with collisional tectonics where India plate subducts beneath the Eurasian Plate.
