Guwahati: Amid the surge in Covid 19 cases and fearing a shortage of oxygen supply in the state, Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneswar Kalita in a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Rural has requested to pledge Rs 2 crores from his Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) fund for the construction of COVID 19 facilities in the state.
In the letter, MP Bhubaneswar Kalita wrote, “The amount may be spent in setting up of an Oxygen plant, purchase of Ambulances and centre for screening and testing facilities.”
It is noteworthy to mention that Assam ’s COVID-19 death toll has reached 2,123 with 63 more casualties, while 5,347 fresh cases pushed the state’s tally to 3,24,979.
On the other hand, the fresh COVID-19 cases in Kamrup Metro district in Assam has crossed 1000 mark as the district recorded 1,012 cases on Saturday along with 21 Covid-related deaths.
Apart from Kamrup Metro district, Kamrup rural recorded 424 cases, Nagaon 343 cases and Sonitpur 291 cases till Saturday.
Assam now has 44,008 active cases, while 2,77,501 people have recovered from the disease so far. Altogether, 33,61,495 people have been vaccinated in the state.
Moreover, the state’s recovery rate stands at 85.39% and death rate at 0.65%.
Meanwhile, the state disaster management authority on Saturday has advanced the curfew hours for at least two hours in the urban areas. The curfew will start from 12 noon instead of 2 pm from May 16.
