Nagaland declared ‘disturbed’ for six more months under AFSPA

New Delhi, January 1:  The entire state of Nagaland has been declared “disturbed area” for six more months under the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA).

The Act empowers security forces to conduct operations anywhere and arrest anyone without any prior notice.

The Centre is of the opinion that the area comprising the whole of Nagaland is in such a disturbed and dangerous condition that the use of armed forces in aid of civilian power is the need of the hour.
