Guwahati: On October 12, a Dimapur resident Aneiba Thou took it to his Facebook account and posted that he would be ready to pick up and drop off any person especially women facing difficulties at night in the town as he dreams of a ‘Rape free and safe India’.
Soon his post went viral and many others decided to follow the suit. And now, there were several people who have decided to give free rides to needy people and women at odd hours.
Sharing his phone number and address, Thou had posted: “Any persons, elders, younger sister or a lady facing problems in transportation at night or any problems or not feeling safe at nearby areas, I am ready to help so call or SOS me anytime 24×7. Just call and say I need your help, I’ll be there. We believe together we can bring the change and we will change this and a dream of safe and rape free INDIA. Let’s spread this initiative so much that we can get volunteer from each corner of the country. My dream of rape free and safe INDIA.”
A police constable and father of two, Thou told media that all he wanted to leave a beautiful and safe planted for his children where there is no crime against women.
Denizens in Dimapur hailed his efforts.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau’s (NCRB) Crime in India 2018 compilation, Nagaland state officially recorded/reported a total of 75 Crime Against Women cases in 2018, lower than the 79 officially recorded in 2017. The number of victims stood at 90.
