Guwahati: Nagaon police on Wednesday arrested a woman for a controversial Facebook post, where she allegedly claimed to join the banned insurgent outfit, United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent).
The woman also blamed the Assam police and the Assam government for ruining her life. In her post, the woman also hash-tagged the ULFA(I) commander-in-chief, Paresh Baruah.
The post was later deleted by the user herself.
In the Facebook post, one Sipra Dutta Das said, “I, Sipra Dutta Das wanted to join the banned insurgent outfit, United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) because my life has been ruined by Assam police and Assam Government.”
Speaking to the media in this regard, the officer-in-charge, Nagaon Sadar Police Station, Manoj Rajbongshi said, “So far we have arrested two people for making a controversial statement in support of the ULFA-I. On Monday, we arrested Naba Bora and forwarded him to court. Again on Tuesday, Sipra Dutta Das was taken into custody for making a controversial statement claiming to join the banned group. She was arrested from Guwahati.”
Meanwhile, the woman’s husband (not willing to be named) said, “My wife wrote the Facebook post out of sheer frustration. Earlier, she spent 12 days in jail after a family dispute, despite being innocent. She was very disappointed with the system and then she took to Facebook to express her frustration. None came forward to help her. Moreover, she has got no such plan to join the ULFA-I.”
