Guwahati: In a shocking incident, 3-year-old twins were allegedly abducted from the house of famous poet Pranab Kumar Barman by a newly hired maidservant on Saturday afternoon.

Interestingly, the twins were rescued following the intervention of the villagers in Porakuchi within an hour.

The incident came to light when a relative of the poet raised a hue and cry after discovering the children were missing from his home.

According to reports, Pranab Kumar Barman hired a domestic servant to look after his twin nephews 10 days ago. However, none were aware of her evil intentions.

Speaking to the media, Pranab Kumar Barman said, “We generally hear about kidnapping cases and on Saturday it happened with my family and me. We hired a maidservant 10 days ago to look after my twin nephews. Her name is Shanti Rajbongshi. The girl took advantage of our love and made an attempt to kidnap my twin nephews when there was no one else at home. Later, with the intervention of the villagers from Porakuchi the twins were rescued.”

Meanwhile, the maidservant has been detained by the Nalbari police for further questioning.
