Guwahati: An unexpected controversy broke out at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Banekuchi of Nalbari district after a female student allegedly attempted suicide in the school dormitory after succumbing to harassment from a teacher.

Apart from the student who tried to commit suicide, two other students also accused the teacher of mental harassment.

The incident came to light after a team from the Human Rights Commission arrived at the school on Tuesday afternoon to conduct an investigation based on a complaint filed by the family of the girl who had attempted suicide.

Meanwhile, Principal Ajit Kumar categorically denied allegations that the teacher had been subjected to the physical and mental torture of a student in the hostel.

The family of the victim, along with the concerned people of the district, expressed hope that the real mystery will come to light after an investigation by the Human Rights Commission.
