Guwahati: Former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb made a lucky escape on Saturday when the chopper he had boarded could not fly due to a technical snag in Agartala.

According to sources, the chopper caught a technical fault just before it was supposed to take off with Deb boarding inside it. The former CM was on his way to attend a programme in Chandipur area of the state.

A close aide of Deb claimed that after Deb was seated in the helicopter and it was about to take off. However, the helicopter failed to fly due to a technical fault.

Sources added that the pilot realizing the situation has requested Deb to get off the chopper and informed him about some technical problem with the helicopter’s pressure system.

Deb has resigned on May 14 after he met union home minister Amit Shah. Tripura was going for a state poll next year.
