Guwahati: Top Congress leaders including the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Borah were detained by city police on Friday as the party leaders took out a protest rally against the recent high inflation, unemployment and GST on food items.

As a part of the national wide protest march to Rashtrapati Bhawan, APCC leaders were detained while they were on their way to stage a Rajbhawan gherao protest.

Bora said, “Congress will not tolerate such dictatorship of the ruling party. The high rates of inflation, GST on food items and unemployment have hit the common men badly but Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government has ruined the country’s economy.”

The APCC has also sent a memorandum of their demands to the President via the Governor of Assam.
