NBT Director Rita Chowdhury resigns

Guwahati, January 11: Amid the state-wide protest after the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, noted Assamese litterateur, Dr Rita Chowdhury resigned from the post of Director of National Book Trust (NBT).

Following her Facebook post where she had written ‘Moi Axomiya’ (I am an Assamese) on Wednesday, she resigned from her post.

She has not made public the reason behind her resignation.

Author of the popular Assamese novel Makam and wife of Assam’s Industry and Commerce Minister and a BJP leader Chandra Mohan Patowary, Chowdhury was conferred the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for her book Deo Langkhui.

She was also a top leader in the Assam Agitation against the illegal migrants from Bangladesh.
