    Agartala: The northeastern states are now on the path of development under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said union minister of state for Environment, Forests, Food and Public Distribution, Ashwini Kumar Choubey in a review meeting at the state guest house here in Agartala on Friday.

    The Tripura government is also working admirably for the implementation of the central program and for the welfare of the people, he added.

    The meeting was jointly organized by the state government’s Forest and Food, Public Resources and Consumer Affairs departments. The union minister of state was accompanied by Tripura Forest minister NC Debbarma, Food and Civil Supplies minister Manoj Kanti Deb and Chief Secretary Kumar Alok along with other officials of respective department.

    At the beginning of the meeting, union minister Choubey was briefed by the Forest department about the forest and biodiversity of the state as well as various programs undertaken by the Forest department through a PowerPoint presentation.

    While focusing on various programs including ‘Smritiban’, ‘Ban Mitra’, commercialization of Agar Tree, CM Swanirvar Paribar Yojana, it was informed that the Forest department has so far provided 9.24 lakh free agar, black pepper, yangchak, jackfruit, have been distributed among 1.24 lakhs of families (5 per family). Two lakh families will be added to this program every year for the next three years.

    Union Minister Choubey emphasized on some simplification of the existing rules and regulations subject to commercialization Agar and other valuable timber outside Tripura and said that the Ministry would take necessary steps in this regard.

    The Union Minister also inquired into various aspects of the state’s public distribution system. The Union Minister was apprised of the Chief Minister Covid Special Relief Scheme at the meeting. Altogether, 6.13 lakh families have been added to the scheme during the second wave of Corona.

    Later in the afternoon of Friday, MoS Choubey met with Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya at Raj Bhavan here in Agartala and discussed on various issues.
