7-Year-Old Manipur Girl To Address UN On Disaster Risk Reduction In May

A seven-year-old girl from Manipur  Licypriya Kangujam is all set to address the United Nations (UN) in the Sixth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risks Reduction 2019. The session will be held from May 13th-17th,2019 in UN Headquarter, Geneva, Switzerland. The session’s theme is ‘Resilience Dividend: Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Societies’.

Licypriya is studying in Class 2. She is the youngest participant of the world invited and convened by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Government of Switzerland.

The session will represent the next important opportunity for the international community to boost the implementation of the Sendai Framework and related Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, as well as commitments of the Paris Climate Agreement.

It will be the last global gathering for all stakeholders before the deadline for the achievement of Target E of the Sendai Framework: Substantially increase the number of countries with national and local disaster risk reduction strategies by 2020.
