8 Rohingya Muslims Arrested In Silchar

Silchar, February 11, 2019

A total of eight Rohingya Muslims including six women were arrested on February 10th, 2019. The Rangirkhari Police arrested the persons during a raid in a house in Krishnapur under Sonabarighat of Cachar district in Assam.

As per initial reports, the arrested persons entered Assam from Bangladesh via Tripura. The raid was conducted in a house of one Sargul Barbhuiya, an oil tanker driver.

The arrested persons have been identified as Halima Begum, Noor Nesa, Dilwara Begam, Fatima Khatun, Tamiya Begum, Zahir Khan and Aamir Khan. They were staying at Sargul’s house for the past four months.

All eight of them are now being grilled by at Silchar’s Sadar Thana.

Past cases

Seven children of Rohingya Muslims, including six girls and a boy, who crossed over from Bangladesh to enter into Assam, were arrested on February 3rd, 2019 from the from the Kanchanjungha Express from the Dharmanagar Railway Station, North Tripura.

“The children, all under 18, would be handed over to Tripura Police on February 3rd, 2019 for further legal formalities. Railway tickets up to Badarpur railway station were found on them. They might have been trafficked by middlemen,” an official of the RPF of the Northeast Frontier Railway told media persons.
