AASU Leader Allegedly Sets Ablaze BJP Leader’s House In Morigaon

In a sensational incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shankar Basumatary’s house was set on fire allegedly by All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leader Abhijit Brahma alias Rana in the wee hours of July 11th, 2019.

The fire tenders immediately rushed to the spot and successfully managed to douse the rising flames. No casualty has been reported so far.

The police who reached the spot to take stock of the situation recovered a Maruti Ertiga parked outside the house and petrol bottles. It is suspected that the accused AASU leader hurled the petrol bottles at the house and attempted to set it ablaze.

“I was watching India vs New Zealand semi-final match with the family.  After India lost the match, I was extremely sad and thought of going out for a while. It was then I saw the fire…I was shocked and called for help,” said Basumatary.

Meanwhile, a complaint has been lodged with the police here. The AASU leader is said to be on the run at the time of filing this report.
