The first phase of the panchayat elections were held at 16 districts.
It may be mentioned that the two-phase Panchayat elections would be the first major test for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the party is facing stiff opposition from its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
There are 2,200 Gaon panchayats in Assam. Re-polling will take place on December 7 and December 11.
