BJP Social Media Cell Member Arrested For ‘Derogatory’ Remarks Against Sonowal, Himanta In Morigaon

A FIR has been registered against Nitumoni Bora for allegedly posting derogatory remarks against Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal.

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) IT Cell member from Morigaon district of Assam has been booked for allegedly posting derogatory communal and insulting remarks on social networking site – Facebook against the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He also made pejorative statements on the Chaygaon naked dance case.

Raju Mahanta, president of an NGO Xohai, has lodged an FIR against Nitumoni Bora at the Morigaon Police Station. “A case (No 549/2019) has been registered against the accused who is presently being interrogated,” police said.

In his posts, Bora had claimed the BJP government in Assam was unable to protect indigenous Assamese from migrant Muslim settlers. He also indicated that he held Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal responsible for the sorry state of affairs in Assam. Bora also demanded Himanta Biswa Sharma be appointed as the new Home Minister.

Apart from Bora, Nani Gopal Dutta was also arrested on similar allegations. Police also raided the house of another BJP IT Cell member, Hemanta Baruah. While Bora hails from Morigaon, Dutta and Baruah hail from Majuli.
