As the counting of votes is underway, Bharatiya Janata Party has taken the lead in both the Lok Sabha constituencies of Tripura West and Tripura East.
BJP Candidate Rebati Tripura is taking the lead in the poll battle against Indian National Congress candidate Maharaj Kumari Pragya Deb Burman with 88455 votes and BJP’s Pratima Bhoumik is racing ahead in the Tripura West seat against Congress’s Subal Bhowmik with 87585 votes.
In the Tripura East seat, 10 contestants, including two women had fought the poll battle. Three of the main contenders were Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) sitting MP Jitendra Choudhury, BJP’s Rebati and Burman, elder sister of state Congress chief Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barman.
Voting in Tripura West took place in the first phase of the elections on April 11th with a voter turnout of 83 per cent, however, re-polling was conducted at 168 polling booths on May 12th, 2019.
In Tripura East, the voting on April 18th, 2019 was changed to April 23rd following directives of the Election Commission of India. The voter turnout in the constituency was recorded to be 78.84 per cent.
