Cyclone Fani: NF Railway Cancels 6 Long-Distance Trains For Passengers’ Safety

Guwahati, May 2, 2019

In view of the severe Cyclone Fani (pronounced as Foni) over the East Coast, the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway announced the cancellation of six long-distance trains.

The defence forces are on high alert ahead of cyclone Fani. The Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and personnel of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)and fire service have been deployed in vulnerable areas to help the administration in evacuations.

The NF Railway cancelled the 12508 Silchar-Thiruvananthapuram Central Express, the 12514 Guwahati-Secunderabad Express and the 15929 Tambaram-Dibrugarh Express. These three trains were scheduled to depart on May 2nd, 2019 from their respective points of departure.

The 12507 Thiruvananthapuram-Silchar Central Express which was scheduled for May 7th, 2019, the 12513 Secunderabad-Guwahati Express which was scheduled to depart on May 5th, 2019 and the 15930 Dibrugarh-Tambaram Express which was scheduled for May 5th, 2019 have also been cancelled by the railway authorities.

The cyclone Fani is expected to make landfall in coastal areas of Odisha on May 3rd, 2019. The cyclonic storm has intensified into an “extreme severe cyclonic”.

It may be mentioned that an ‘Orange message’ alert has been issued by the India Meteorological Department for Odisha, West Bengal and Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram and Visakhapatnam districts of Andhra Pradesh coasts in the wake of the oncoming Fani cyclone.
