GUWAHATI: The Nyishi Ethnic Students of Arunachal Pradesh (NESA) on Saturday criticised the Mon Autonomous Region Demand Committee and condemned its demand for autonomy in the mon region of western Arunachal Pradesh.

Alleging that chief minister Pema Khandu was in favour of the demand, the NESA demanded the resignation of the chief minister and said, “Any move to politically divide the state is highly condemnable.”

Earlier, the All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) also demanded a white paper on the management of Covid-19 pandemic, financial status and increasing demands of the mon autonomous region in the state and called for a shutdown on August 27 and 28.

“We demand immediate resignation of chief minister Pema Khandu for his favouritism and biased attitude. He is conspiring to divide the people of the state,” the NESA said.

The NESA further said that such demands will automatically make other regions and tribe to demand for the same which will divide the state into many parts.

“The recent meeting of the Mon autonomous region demand committee held at Tawang for creation of Mon autonomous region, has hurt the sentiments of other tribes of Arunachal,” the NESA.

Since years, the people of the Mon region of the western Arunachal Pradesh that comprises the West Kameng and Tawang districts have been demanding for Mon Autonomous Council while the residents of eastern Arunachal Pradesh – Tirap, Changlang and Longding have been demanding for Patkai Autonomous Council.
