To woo visitors and attract tourists, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on September 21st, 2019 asked the concerned officials to start a ‘Light and Sound show’ at the Gandhi mandap located atop the Sarania hills in Guwahati under the aegis of the Smart City Project.
Sonowal visited the Gandhi Mandap site and directed the officials to ensure pure drinking water and sanitation for the visitors. “Putting special focus on Swachhata, the CM directed officials concerned to start ‘Light & Sound Show’ at the site and ensure pure drinking water and sanitation for the visitors,” the office of Chief Minister tweeted.

Sonowal also reviewed the other developmental works and beautification drive carried out at the Gandhi Mandap area under the Smart City Project.

It may be mentioned, on September 19th, 2019 Sonowal chaired a review meeting of the Smart City Project and decided that a state-of-the-art stadium, a riverfront bridge and an aesthetically designed entry gate will be constructed at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
Also in the meeting, Sonowal directed the Guwahati Development Department to conduct a survey to identify the homeless people in the city and develop available space under flyovers as night shelters for them with proper sanitary facilities.
