Anti-CAB Posters Pasted In Sonowal’s Media, Legal Advisers’ Houses

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently said that the Centre will attempt to pass the Bill in Parliament by December 10th, 2019

Unidentified miscreants pasted anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Bill posters in front of the gate and walls of houses belonging to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami and Legal Adviser Shantanu Bharali on the intervening night of December 1st-December 2nd, 2019.

The posters written in Assamese were pasted on the boundary wall and entry gate of Goswami and Bharali’s house in Guwahati.

People are carrying out massive protests in Assam and other parts of Northeast against the proposed Bill. The contentious Bill will be tabled in the ongoing winter session of parliament.

The Bill seeks to grant Indian citizenship to the people belonging to the Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Parsis who have become the victims of religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan and entered India on or before December 31st, 2014.

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently said that the Centre will attempt to pass the Bill in Parliament by December 10th, 2019.

On December 1st, 2019, the Dibrugarh University (DU) students have ‘banned’ the entry of Sonowal for his alleged silence on it. The varsity is Sonowal’s alma mater.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has appealed the regional forces to unite against the Bill. Taking to Twitter, Gogoi asked that “if parties of different ideologies can come together for the common good of Maharashtra, why can’t the same happen in Northeast India?”.
