In a bid to address the grievances of the public and as a part of public outreach exercise, the Hojai Police has come up with a module to set up suggestion-cum-complaint boxes in the police stations, and outposts in the district.
A total of 16 complaint boxes will be set up in the district including at the Superintendent of Police’s (SP) office for the public so that they can come up with their recommendations and also air their grievances.
“We have decided to set up suggestion-cum-complaint boxes at every police station, outpost of the district for the public. The box will have a phone number of the police control room and will be checked once every 15 days,” said Ankur Jain, Hojai SP, while speaking to TIME8.
“The order for the same has been issued and they should be installed within a few days,” the district police chief added.
Jain further appealed to the public to come up with their suggestions and complaints and stated a discreet inquiry will be conducted to verify the complaint without revealing the identity of the complainant.
The announcement came after two separate videos of constables taking bribe went viral on the social media platforms. The video was received by the district police media cell and they conducted an inquiry into the matter.
Later, the duo was found guilty of taking illegal gratification and were subsequently suspended from their respective duties. The duo has been identified as Atul Baniya (District Special Branch) SP office and Afzal Hussain of Udali Police Station.
“The Hojai police is strictly against corruption and will lawfully take action anyone found indulging in such activities,” the SP added.
