In an all-party meeting held under the chairmanship of Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on September 28th, 2019, it was collectively decided to field late Tirong Aboh’s wife Chakat Aboh in the ensuing by-election to 56 Khonsa West Assembly Constituency.
By-elections to the lone Assembly seat in the state is scheduled to be held on October 21st, 2019. This was informed by Chief Elections Commissioner Sunil Arora on September 21st, 2019.
In the meeting, the members of all different parties namely, Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress, National People’s Party, Janata Dal (United) and People’s Party of Arunachal condemned the dastardly incident where Tirong, who was the sitting MLA of Khonsa West Assembly seat and 11 people, was shot dead by unknown miscreants in Bogapani area of Tirap district of the state on May 21st, 2019.
All the members of the different political parties expressed their grief on the untimely death of Tirong. They also made a reference to an assurance given by Khandu in the House during the 1st and 7th Legislative Assembly to convene an all-party meeting and support the bereaved family of the slain MLA by allowing his wife to contest in the by-elections.
After a thorough discussion, the members decided that to ensure peace and tranquillity in the constituency, none of the other party members will field their candidates against Chakat in the constituency.
