Pumped up with the passion of making a name in the field of wrestling and representing the country at international events, Apurba Das, a wrestler from Assam’s Golaghat district recently took to social media seeking help from his idol and Olympic hero Yogeshwar Dutt.
In a moving post on Twitter, the young man mentioned that ‘wrestling is his life’. Appealing to Dutt to help him achieve his dream, he wrote that there is a lack of exposure and infrastructure in wrestling in his home state.
In the Twitter post, Apurba also mentioned that he has represented Assam in a number of national events and has been qualified for the forthcoming Khelo India Youth Games.
“Six from our club have qualified for Khelo India in different categories. I have been qualified in the 51 kg category. Our club is a small one and there are no facilities that a professional wrestler requires. We have also not received any help from the Assam government,” he said while speaking to Time8.
“I am a big fan of Yogi sir. I have heard that he has his own academy called Yogeshwar Dutt Wrestling Academy. If I get the chance to be trained under his guidance, it will be a dream come true for me,” added Das.
Dutt is an Indian freestyle wrestler. He won the bronze medal in the 60 kg category at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013. He won a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
