Majuli, January 11: A group of supporters in Majuli shaved their heads marking a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Slogans against the contentious Bill rocked the streets of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s home constituency, Majuli on Friday.

It may be mentioned that Assam is witnessing state-wide protests against the Bill after it was passed in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

However, the Bill was stalled in the Rajya Sabha following strong opposition from the Congress along with other parties.

The Citizenship Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in 2016 to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955. The Bill amends the Citizenship Act, 1955 to make illegal migrants who are Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, eligible for citizenship.
