According to the police, Islam plotted his own kidnapping with the help of his family on May 31st, 2019. “Islam created a story and made everyone believe that he was kidnapped along with a cash amount of Rs 5 lakh while he was on his way to the weekly market at Dalu village in East Garo Hills district of Meghalaya,” police said.

A kidnapping case was also filed with the Meghalaya police. However, it was on June 6th, 2019, when a police team spotted Islam walking “suspiciously” along the streets of Baghmara and nabbed him.

As per reports, Islam had borrowed money from a number of lenders to the tune of Rs 5 lakh on the pretext of starting a cashew nut business. “On May 31st, 2019, he left behind the money at his residence and went into hiding,” police said.

Police recovered the money from his residence. Islam is presently being interrogated.
