Police Recover Broken Parts Of Ugratara Temple Idol In Nalbari

The Latasil Police in a joint operation with Mukalmua Police recovered the broken parts of the centuries-old Ugratara temple’s ashtadhatu idol of Goddess Tara. The idol which was stolen from the Ugratara temple on the night of November 15th, 2018  was recovered by the Golaghat Police on May 1st, 2019 from Tihu in Nalbari district of Assam.

The idol was recovered from one of the accused’s residences involved in the Ugratara temple theft case, Rahul Ali.  The search operation was conducted in Nalbari as per information received during the interrogation.

Earlier, one of the members of the Ugratara temple management committee had stated that the old idol will have to be repaired as damages were noticed.

Police arrested six persons involved in the theft case. Samsul Alim, Mintu Rai, Adil Ali, Reshma Begum, Saan Hussain and Rahul Ali were arrested for their alleged involvement in the theft case. The idol was handed over to the temple authorities on May 2nd, 2019.

The Ugratara Devalaya, located in Uzan Bazar, Guwahati is dedicated to Sati Devi, the first partner of Lord Shiva. The temple holds significance for it is an important Shakti Temple which is flocked by several religious tourists and local inhabitants annually.
