Guwahati: The banks on the two sides of the river Brahmaputra will be linked with a new rail-cum- road bride, announced union minister for road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, on Wednesday.
The new bridge will be built near the existing Saraighat bridge at Guwahati. The minister said that the ministry has approved the construction of the bridge at a cost of Rs. 996.75 Crore which will be shared by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and railway ministry.
However, the cost of the approach roads/viaducts Rs. 322 Crore will be entirely built by NHAI.
Gadkari said once the bridge is completed, it would provide seamless and strategic connectivity across river with heavy traffic at present of more than 75000 PCUs (passenger car units).
