Guwahati, May 19: Section 144 of the code of criminal procedure has been promulgated in Assam’s Hailakandi district after a political clash that went violent between the members of the Congress and AIUDF over the construction of a toilet.
Earlier the members of the Congress and BJP had opposed the construction of the toilet near a government-run hospital named after former Congress MLA Santosh Kumar Roy and had opposed the construction because it was being built close to a statue of Roy.
Meanwhile, the incident got violent when AIUDF MLA Anwar Hussain Laskar reportedly took a stand for the construction of the toilet and even started helping the workers engaged in the work, which later led to a huge argument between both the AIUDF and Congress members while the latter reportedly tried to intervene in the construction work.
While MLA Laskar retaliated that he is in support of the toilet construction keeping in view of the convenience of the people and even had approval from the hospital authorities, at the same time both the BJP and Congress had opposed the same raising issues of the construction being made close to the statue.
Following the approval and non-approval arguments of the construction work led to a huge clash following which the administration has imposed Section 144 of the CrPc.
Meanwhile, the AIUDF MLA alleged that both the BJP and Congress are concerned only about their own objectives and are least bothered about the convenience of the people.
