The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has registered its maiden victory in by-elections in Sikkim. BJP candidate Sonam Tshering Venchungpa won from Rumtek assembly segment by a margin of 1800 votes.
BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav took to Twitter to congratulate Venchungpa. Venchungpa will be the first elected MLA of BJP in the state.
Around 44,500 voters exercised their franchise on October 21st, 2019 in bypolls in three Sikkim Assembly seats – Gangtok, Martam Rumtek and Poklok Kamrang. As per information available, Sikkim Chief minister Prem Singh Tamang is leading in Poklok-Kamrang.
