Sivasagar shelter home rape case | Gauhati High Court issues notices to Govt, Assam DGP to submit reports

Guwahati, January 19: The Gauhati High Court on Friday issued notices to the Assam government, the Superintendent of Police (SP), Sivasagar to submit detailed reports related to a sexual abuse case in a children’s home in Sivasagar.

The High Court has also asked the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Director General Police (DGP), Assam to file an updated status report of the ongoing investigation within January 28.

The court had taken a suo moto public interest litigation based on media reports where the shelter home was alleged of sexually and physically abusing three girl inmates of the children’s home.

Reportedly, the three girls were sexually abused by the superintendent of the shelter home identified as Parag Goswami and physically tortured by the housemother of the home. The incident came to light after one of the three girls tried to commit suicide last month after the police did not take action on her complaint.

The girl had told the police that Goswami repeatedly raped her and due to that she had a mental breakdown and tried to commit suicide.

Goswami, on the other hand, has said that he is innocent and all the allegations against him are fabricated.
