Guwahati, March 9, 2019

Assam Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley on March 9th, 2019 denied the reports of irregularities involving appointment in permanent posts in panchayat and rural development (P&RD) department.

“There were no such irregularities as alleged in the appointments. The recruitment was done on the basis of merit. The department has not yet declared the results of 18 examination centres where anomalies were detected,” Doley said.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on March 8th, 2019 directed institution of a one-man inquiry by Additional Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah to inquire into the whole episode and submit a report to the government at the earliest. The Congress and the All Assam Students’ Union demanded high-level judicial inquiries into the matter.

It may be mentioned that Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti convenor Akhil Gogoi attacked the BJP-led coalition government in Assam over the recruitment process in the P&RD department. Gogoi termed it as a bigger scam than the Assam Public Service Commission cash-for-job scam.
