A cadre of the United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I) who is claimed to be one of the prime accused in the May 15th, 2019 Guwahati grenade blast case is still untraceable.
“Jahnabi Saikia was riding the scooty with Bijoy Asom. During interrogation, it was revealed that Bijoy Asom hurled the grenade at the checkpoint near the Central shopping mall and fled from the spot,” said Deepak Kumar, Guwahati Commissioner of Police.
Apart from Saikia and ULFA leader Pranamoy Rajguru, police arrested ULFA-I bomb expert Amrit Ballab Goswami from Golaghat, ULFA-I linkman Indra Mohan Bora from Nagaon and newly recruited in the ULFA-I, Chinmoy Lahkar from Guwahati.
He added, “Later, Saikia dropped Bijoy at Ganeshguri from where he was picked up by Chinmoy and dropped at Khanapara. Bijoy boarded a Nagaon-bound vehicle from Khanapara and after reaching his destination, he contacted Indra who helped him to flee.”
It may be mentioned, the Honda Dio scooty which was used in the grenade blast was hired on rent by Saikia from a Guwahati-based start-up agency – ahija.com – which provides bike and self-drive car on rents. The scooty (registration number AS-01-DQ-4420) was hired for a day on May 15th, 2019 for Rs 400.
As per reports, Saikia submitted driver’s licence, voter ID card and mentioned that she was an actress while hiring the scooty on rent. The scooty was found in Saikia’s house on May 16th, 2019.
Within 24 hours of the blast, the Guwahati police arrested Rajguru and Assamese actress Saikia in relation to the blast case from a rented house located in Naamghar path at the Panjabari area in Guwahati.
The police also recovered a huge quantity of explosives, a pistol and 25 rounds of ammunition along with documents related to the ULFA-I. Saikia had taken the accommodation on rent around 10 days back.
