The Centre has decided to intensify the crackdown on terror activities and demanded China to take action against fugitive United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) leader Paresh Baruah. The Government of India has provided details of the whereabouts of Baruah to China demanding action against him.

Barua fled from Bangladesh on the eve of Sheikh Hasina’s re-election in 2008. He is understood to be hiding along the Myanmar-China border and undertakes frequent visits to China.  Earlier, China shrugged off the “allegation” of sheltering Baruah, saying it adheres to the policy of “non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries”.

As per a report filed in The Assam Tribune, though the Centre has submitted details of the whereabouts of Baruah, the Government of China is yet to take any action. The report further mentions that “a few times Chinese authorities reported back to India that they checked the locations given to them and could not find Baruah”.
