As Meghalaya is gearing up to host the National Games in the year 2022, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressed his optimism that the Centre will support the state in the preparations. A delegation from Meghalaya will visit New Delhi soon to make a presentation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.

Sangma informed the media that the government has estimated a budget between Rs 1,500 crore and Rs 2,000 crore for the games. He also inspected the proposed site for the construction of a stadium at the Mawdiangdiang area, around 15 km from Shillong city.

The Union Ministry of Social Justice has announced sanctioning of Rs 300 crore for the construction of a multi-facility stadium at a 50-acre land identified in the New Shillong Township for hosting the National Games 2022.
