Nagaland woman, Nigerian man held for duping people to the tune of Rs 1 crore

Kohima, January 11: The New Delhi police have arrested two people, including a woman hailing from Nagaland for allegedly duping several people from Telangana to the tune of Rs 1 crore in an online lottery scam on Friday.

According to the police, the duo, a Nigerian man and the woman used to send messages to people on their phones claiming that they have won an online lottery prize worth Rs 1 crore.

Upon any reply from the people, the duo asked them to send their details via email and accordingly transfer money for the customs procedure and other charges to claim the prize money.

Falling victim to online fraud, the victims transferred money through online transactions and used to stop responding to queries after the money was deposited.

The incident came to light after a victim filed a police complaint.

Currently, the police are interrogating the duo.
